Georgia Supreme Court to hear appeal of ruling on State Election Board rules

The Georgia Supreme Court will hear an appeal from the Republican National Committee over a court decision striking down rules the Georgia State Election Board passed.

Last Wednesday, a Fulton County judge decided that seven election rules from the board were “illegal” and declared them invalid.

One of the rules required hand-counting while two others focused on election certification, with one requiring county election officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certifying election results and another allowing officials “to examine all election related documentation created during the conduct of elections.”

The RNC filed an emergency motion for expedited review of the ruling on Friday, which the state Supreme Court granted the same day.

The court said it “lacks jurisdiction over this motion” but that it would grant the appeal because it presents “issues of gravity and public importance.”
