It was a rare day off from bashing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) who turned her fire on a domestic grocery chain.

The “Squad” member is among the Democrats who are laying the groundwork for a President Kamala Harris to follow through on her pledge to sic the federal government on grocers for price gouging and Tlaib accused Kroger of using facial recognition technology to discriminate against minority shoppers.

The Michigan lawmaker took to X to share a letter to the CEO of one of the nation’s largest grocery chains taking issue with its use of the technology in stores which she suggested targets non-white shoppers.

“Families are struggling to put food on the table. I sent a letter to @Kroger about their decision to roll out surge pricing using facial recognition technology. Facial recognition technology is often discriminatory and shouldn’t be used in grocery stores to price gouge residents,” Tlaib wrote in the letter which was dated October 11.

Kroger is among the grocers that are making a move to Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs) to replace paper price tags and allow for the use of dynamic pricing – or surge pricing – where prices can be quickly updated depending on a variety of external factors.

Tlaib noted that the chain operates stores in Michigan as well as in her home district and that the combination of the ESL’s with facial recognition was a prime way to discriminate against people in “black and brown” communities. It is more of the same racial grievance and paranoia that fuels the engine of the Democratic Party.

According to the congresswoman’s letter to Kroger Chairman and CEO Rodney McMullen, “ESLs or digital price tags may result in Kroger deploying dynamic pricing for goods, increasing the price of essential goods on shelves based on real-time conditions and inventory and creating both confusion and hardship for my residents.”

“Additionally, through a partnership with Microsoft, I understand that Kroger is intending to place cameras at its digital displays, using facial recognition technology to determine the gender and age of customers captured on camera to present targeted advertisements to display on ESLs,” Tlaib wrote.

“Studies have shown that facial recognition technology is flawed and can lead to discrimination in predominantly Black and brown communities,” the “Squad” member claimed. “The racial biases of facial recognition technology are well-documented and should not be extended into our grocery stores.”

“In addition to the threat of price gouging from ESLs, the use of facial recognition tools has the potential to invade a customer’s privacy and employ biased price discrimination,” she wrote.

Harris has pledged to target the grocery industry, scapegoating it for the ruinous effects of “Bidenomics” and a prolonged period of high inflation.

She has proposed communist-style price controls that will be enforced by ideological government goons and with Tlaib and other Democrats including Sen. Elizabeth Warren now going after grocers over the use of technology, it creates another excuse for a federal crackdown on the industry.

While the letter does express some very valid concerns about privacy – not something that authoritarian Democrats care much about – coming from Tlaib, it’s the equivalent of the fruit from a poisonous tree.
