While Democratic nominee Kamala Harris doesn’t appear to want anything to do with appearing before the Economic Club of Chicago, former President Donald Trump snapped up an opportunity to discuss his economic agenda.

Hosted by Bloomberg News’s Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait, the event was “testy” at times as Trump was dealt some difficult questions, but an exchange involving California Gov. Gavin Newson stood out.

Trump was talking about how Newsom just signed a bill taking away the right to ask for identification while voting and he referred to the governor as “Gavin Newscum.”

“Newsom,” Micklethwait corrected him.

“Newscum, I call him,” Trump doubled down, evoking laughter from the room.

“There are CEOs out here if they said things like that about a rival CEO they’d be sacked,” the host said, and Trump proceeded to knock it out of the park with his response.

“They don’t know how to survive like me,” he said. “They don’t have to go through what I have to go through. There has never been a president that has been treated like me so I have to fight my own way.”

The room erupted in applause as the audience cheered Trump’s comeback.

The idea that Trump does indeed have to “fight my own way” resonated with social media users, as well.
