Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis is pushing back against a subpoena for former special prosecutor Nathan Wade to testify before Congress, citing concerns that his testimony could “improperly divulge confidential information.”

Willis expressed her concerns in a letter addressed to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), which was released on Monday.

In the letter, dated October 11, Willis argued that allowing Wade to testify could lead to a breach of legal privileges that are upheld by her office. “I am concerned that your demand for Mr. Wade’s testimony would force him to improperly divulge confidential information that is protected by privileges held by the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and demands that Mr. Wade violates State Bar of Georgia rules that govern conduct of attorneys,” Willis wrote.

The move has sparked outrage among Republicans, who have suggested that Willis is attempting to cover up important information.

The GOP majority on the House Judiciary Committee’s social media account on X (formerly Twitter) posted, “What is she trying to hide?” in response to the letter.

The request to block Wade’s testimony comes amid an ongoing investigation led by a GOP-controlled U.S. House panel.

The investigation stems from allegations surrounding Wade’s relationship with Willis.

Last year, Willis appointed Wade as special prosecutor in a high-profile case in which former President Donald Trump and 18 co-defendants were indicted over their efforts to challenge the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Wade’s involvement in the case, however, has come under scrutiny.

A co-defendant in the Trump case sought to have Willis removed after it was revealed that she and Wade were involved in a romantic relationship.

The co-defendant argued that Willis had a conflict of interest, suggesting that she had financially benefited from the relationship.

Part of the accusation included claims that Wade had used funds he earned from the case to pay for romantic vacations with Willis.

In light of these allegations, the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for Wade to testify as part of their investigation into his relationship with Willis.

However, Willis is urging Jordan to reconsider this request. In her letter, she requested that the committee retract its demand for Wade’s testimony, citing potential legal violations and ethical concerns.

The situation has added another layer of controversy to the already contentious legal battles surrounding the 2020 election and its aftermath.

Willis, who has been at the forefront of the case against Trump and his associates, has faced intense political pressure from both sides of the aisle as the case has unfolded.

As of now, it remains unclear how Chairman Jordan and the House Judiciary Committee will respond to Willis’ request.

The committee’s investigation into the romantic relationship between Willis and Wade is part of a broader effort by Republicans to examine the conduct and motivations of those involved in prosecuting Trump and his co-defendants.

Willis has become a central figure in the case as she pursues charges against Trump and other prominent individuals who played a role in contesting the 2020 election results.

The investigation into her relationship with Wade adds a layer of personal controversy to what is already a highly politicized legal matter.
