Just because someone is married with five children that does not mean that they can’t be persecuted for homosexuality in Russia or Tajikistan, which is why Austria is granting him asylum.
A Muslim man was first rejected asylum after not wanting to be drafted to fight in Ukraine. However, not wanting to be drafted is not grounds for asylum but being fearful of your life because of your sexual orientation is. So it’s likely he just forgot he was gay and that’s why his application was approved after disclosing that piece of information the second time around.
There have been several instances where a “gay” asylum seeker was convicted of raping a woman but that’s neither here nor there.
According to The Publica:
The man, a Russian-Tajik dual citizen, first entered Austria illegally on September 22, 2023, via Turkey and Saudi Arabia. Upon intake, he applied for asylum on the grounds that he was looking for better economic circumstances for his wife and give children. He also claimed he was afraid of being drafted to fight in Ukraine by Russia.
It turns out that a bad economy is also not normally grounds for asylum.
The application was rejected in April, but the migrant filed an appeal. During an oral hearing on the case, the man, a devout Muslim who had recently completed a pilgrimage to Mecca, changed his reason for seeking asylum, disclosing that he was gay and feared persecution in his home countries.
The man continued that he wanted to start meeting male partners for sex, and wouldn’t be able to do that in Russia or Tajikistan.
Hand it to Austria for allowing this man to meet “male partners for sex” without fear of persecution.
His application was subsequently approved, with the asylum tribunal deciding that him having a wife and children did not necessarily mean that he couldn’t also be gay.
I guess it’s true that you can be married and also want to meet “male partners for sex” at the same time.
His family is now eligible to also move to Austria to be with the man who solely claims to be moving to meet “male partners for sex”. And again, just because he is married with kids that does not mean he can’t also be gay, as being in a heterosexual relationship has nothing to do with being homosexual, according to the asylum tribunal.
Some may look at this situation and think this man is easily playing the system while officials make a mockery of the asylum system but whether or not that is true, the fact is all these people care about is whether or not he is a man who wants to meet “male partners for sex”.
One might also assume that basing asylum claims on sexual desires might not be a good idea but we no longer live in serious times and the fact that people barely have to try to work the asylum system to take advantage of it shows how much of a joke these things are.
