As MSNBC’s Jen Psaki openly encouraged fearmongering, a longtime Democratic strategist cranked conspiracy to the max with a claim about the former president’s intentions for the military.

“Pay attention to them right now, please. They’re telling you.”

Sunday on MSNBC’s “Inside with Jen Psaki,” James Carville was invited on for commentary leading into the final weeks of the 2024 election cycle. It was there that he endeavored to draw the latest likeness of former President Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler over a planned rally at Madison Square Garden and the mischaracterization of how the GOP leader would use the military “if really necessary” to handle “very bad people.”

“He lies about everything, except, except he’s telling the truth when he’s going to have a roundup,” argued Carville.

Harkening back to his own past remarks, the guest expressed, “I did not realize when I said that, that he would actually go on television and say I’m going to use the military to round up my political enemies. When I said that…General Flynn, who’s going to be very senior in this administration, didn’t say that the gates of hell will rain on my political enemies.”

“When I said that, I didn’t know that he was going to schedule a rally at Madison Square Garden to mimic the Nazi rally of 10 February 1939,” he continued. “So we have — they’re telling you — and by the way, if they win, they’re going to correctly say, we told you in [the] election what we’re going to do and you voted for us. You have green-lighted the whole thing.”

The claims referred to remarks that Trump made during an interview with Fox News host Maria Bartiromo Sunday morning when she prompted the president with concerns about foreign nationals impacting the election.

“I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within,” the president said, suggesting domestic bad actors were a greater threat. “Not even the people that have come in — and destroying our country, by the way, totally destroying our country.”

“We have some very bad people. We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they’re the — and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military, because they can’t let that happen,” he went on.

In response to Psaki referring to seasons of a campaign, citing the coordinated effort to peg the Trump-Vance ticket as “weird” and the suggestion that the time was right to increase panic porn, Carville delivered: “How do you think they’re gonna do — if you’re a young, black male and Trump-inspired an Army roundup of people, how well do you think you’re going to do in that? You think you got nothing to lose? How about looking at American history for one time and see what can happen here.”

“We are not making this up. We can be fact-checked by anybody. They have promised military roundup. They’ve promised the gates of hell will rain on their enemies,” Carville argued, citing U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s radical dissent to the ruling about presidential immunity where she’d argued the commander-in-chief would somehow be free to order “the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival…”

“Pay attention to them right now, please. They’re telling you,” he implored.

In response to the radical take, Trump campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung released a statement to The Hill that asserted, “James Carville must be losing his marbles. President Trump is 100% correct — those who seek to undermine democracy by sowing chaos in our elections are a direct threat, just like the terrorist from Afghanistan that was arrested for plotting multiple attacks on Election Day within the United States.”
