The constant harping about January 6 by Democrats has even gotten James Carville urging them to “leave it alone.”

The longtime Democratic strategist hammered home the importance of focusing on the real issues just weeks ahead of the pivotal 2024 presidential election. During an MSNBC interview, Carville suggested Democrats spend more time attacking Republican vice-presidential nominee Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and less time living in the past.

“They need to sell harder. We need to really sell because you’ve got all of this disinformation… and they’ve got to selectively pick out what it is that they want to talk about,” he said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

The political consultant, well known for guiding former President Bill Clinton’s campaign to victory in 1992, noted that “We’ve talked about January 6th ad infinitum, ad nauseam,”

“We’ve been talking about who won the election. Leave it alone,” he continued.

He also urged Democrats to focus on Vance’s comments from the vice presidential debate when he said that former President Trump “salvaged” the Affordable Care Act (ACA) when he was in office.

“Have Bill Clinton go do actualities in every market, in every swing state. Have Obama come out and say, how dare he say this about our healthcare plan,” Carville said.

He expressed his belief that Vice President Kamala Harris was being helped by the endorsement of so-called Republicans.

“I think the Liz Cheney, the Dick Cheney stuff, all these national security people coming out, I think that helps,” he said. “I really do.”

Carville’s general advice for a winning campaign was to “be aggressive.”

“Don’t take anything for granted. I think that’s a good lesson for Vice President Harris’ campaign,” he said.

“They have to set the agenda themselves,” Carville added. “The lesson of my life in politics is aggressiveness pays off.”
