Incumbent GOP Sen. Deb Fischer is in danger of losing her seat in Nebraska as an independent candidate is making strides in the polls.

Independent candidate Dan Osborn is up in multiple polls in Nebraska. A poll from Independent Center shows Osborn up by 47% while Fischer sits at 42%.

Osborn is a union leader and a Navy veteran who has received considerable funds from outside the state for his campaign, according to CBS News.

Randall Adkins, a political science professor at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, said that the race is a lot closer than it should be for Republicans, according to the outlet.

A Survey USA poll shows that Osborn is up one percentage point from Fischer at 45% to 44%.

There is not a Democratic candidate in the race.

A New York Times/Siena poll that was released in August showed Fischer 11 points behind Osborn.
