Between 2023 and 2024, 12 nurses in the same Intensive Care Unit at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts have welcomed 12 babies, all 12 of them boys!

Take a look at some of these baby boys:

The 11 new moms and 1 new dad in the unit have all been a built-in support system for one another, bringing each other care packages and meals, as they’ve each had their turn welcoming a new little one into their family over the past year.

Nurse Manager Valerie Fernald said of the hospital baby boom,

I think these boys are special gifts to our nurses who have worked so incredibly hard to care for our patients during the COVID-19 pandemic and every day! Of course, as the mom of four boys myself, I have a special place in my heart for my [12] Lakeside ICU staff and their beautiful baby boys!

Even their Nurse Manager has four boys!

New mom Marcia Davidson joked that there must be something in the water. Davidson went on to say,

We’re all anxious to see who’s going to be the first baby girl that’s going to break our streak. So that’ll be exciting and I’m sure she’ll be famous in her own respect on the unit.

The first mom to welcome a baby boy to the group back in January of 2023, Stephanie Fortin, is also expecting her second baby later this month which will bring the unit’s number up to 13. Maybe she’ll be the one to finally welcome a girl into the bunch!

But then again, maybe they’ll hear that familiar phrase…
