Iran fired hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday as sirens blared and civilians rushed for cover. Videos on social media showed missiles or shrapnel hitting Tel Aviv and other population centers.
The missiles are Tehran’s first direct attack on the Jewish state since April.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Tuesday’s attack was in direct response to the recent assassinations of Hezbollah’s top officials, including its chief Hassan Nasrallah.
“If the Zionist regime reacts to the operation, it will face heavy attacks,” the IRGC warned.
Initial reports say it appears most of the missiles were stopped by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system.
