The Spirit Halloween store took a pointed jab at “Saturday Night Live” after the comedy series mocked the costume store in a recent skit.
The NBC series kicked off its Season 50 premiere with a parody commercial that poked fun at the retail stores that pop up annually for “six weeks” before Halloween. But the company with the seasonal pop-up shops did not take kindly to the spoof, delivering a brutal post on social media of a fake SNL costume.
“We are great at raising things back from the dead,” read the post on X.

The “costume” was packaged like many that are sold in the stores, and labeled “Irrelevant 50-year-old TV show.” Included with the costume were “dated references, unknown cast members, and shrinking ratings.”
The two-minute SNL opener featured a humorous look at how the nation’s largest Halloween retailer has become an expected addition to the fall season since 1983.
“Times may be good on Wall Street, but on Main Street, communities are struggling,” SNL cast member Heidi Garner says in the opening voiceover. “Closed stores, shuttered businesses, empty parking lots. When hard times hit, it’s easy to feel like no one cares.”
“But help is on the way,” she says as Spirit Halloween employees appear, portrayed by Garner, Chloe Fineman, and Michael Longfellow.
“Spirit Halloween — when you need us, we’ll be here. For six weeks. Because on November 1 we’re gone. And all this junk will be in a dumpster,” they say as the clip ends.
