The White House’s absentee incumbents’ latest flat-footed response to disaster amid “Biblical destruction” found them scrambling after former President Donald Trump announced his plan to aid hurricane victims.

As the confirmed death toll across the Southeast neared 100 in the wake of Hurricane Helene, devastating communities throughout multiple states, the GOP leader was quick to announce plans to help those impacted in person. Announcing a Monday trip to Georgia for updates and to aid in the relief effort, Trump chided “sleeping” President Joe Biden and “Lyin’” Vice President Kamala Harris who remained on the campaign trail.

An official release from the onetime commander-in-chief’s campaign was shared on social media as others wondered where Biden and Harris were. It read, “President Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, will visit Valdosta, Georgia to receive a briefing on the devastation of Hurricane Helene, facilitate the distribution of relief supplies, and deliver remarks to the press on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 2:00 PM EDT.”

During a stop in Erie, Pennsylvania Sunday, Trump challenged the whereabouts of the administration as neither official currently in charge of the federal government strayed from their weekend plans to address the disaster.

“It’s been absolutely devastating. May God be with you all,” said the Republican presidential nominee who went on to state, “And Joe Biden is in Delaware sleeping right now in one of his many estates — one of his many estates. How did he get so many houses? He never was anything — he was a politician…And that’s why Lyin’ Kamala Harris in San Francisco, a city that she has totally destroyed, that’s where she is right now at a fundraiser. I don’t know why fundraiser, they send her — they get so much money.”

As he suggested he would release the names of some of those donors, Trump added, “But they raise a lot of money from bad people — fundraising events with her radical left lunatic donors when big parts of our country have been devastated by that massive hurricane and is underwater with many, many people dead.”

The Trump campaign brought up the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, and the train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, where Trump visited within weeks as the president instead prioritized Ukraine, as a statement qualified how the, “‘Biblical destruction’ from Hurricane Helene ‘pulverized homes, trapped residents, spawned landslides, and submerged communities under raging floodwaters’ in western North Carolina — devastation that spans across the southern United States.”

Meanwhile, as Biden and Harris released statements of their own that assured they were staying apprised of how emergency response teams were handling the situation, Reuters reported that the vice president would be cutting short her fundraising trip to return to Washington, D.C. Monday and an official told the outlet she would be visiting the region impacted by Helene, “as soon as it is possible without disrupting emergency response operations.”

The same went for Biden who expressed plans to visit as soon as this week.
