Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Iran would pay for the missile strikes it launched at Israel.

“Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it,” Netanyahu said on the social media platform, X.

The Israeli Defense Forces announced Tuesday that Iran had launched missiles at the Jewish state. Iran has stated that the attack came in retaliation for an Israeli strike in Lebanon that killed Hamas leader Hassan Nasrallah.

The White House said that the attack was a “significant escalation.”

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the U.S. sanctions against Iran would remain in place.

Former President Donald Trump said the situation was close to a “global catastrophe,” and blamed President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
