The South continues to reel after the unimaginable damage of Hurricane Helene continues to be examined.

Towns in the mountains, hours inland from the coast, have been completely underwater and are still completely isolated from the outside world except through air.

As of Monday morning, 92 people have been confirmed dead in 6 states, and at least 600 are still unaccounted for.

Linemen are out in force as millions are without power.

Nearly 2 million homes and businesses remained without power across the Southeast entering the new week, according to PowerOutage.us. But at the peak, more than double that number of homes and businesses were without power.

Georgia Electric Membership Corp. reports that 100 high-transmission lines were lost in the state. Duke Energy, with many customers in North Carolina, say linemen are out working to reconnect service for homes and businesses.

People are being washed away from flash floods.

Entire cities wiped away.

Private citizens are using their choppers to rescue people.

President Biden said Sunday that his administration has already set aside a signifiant number of resources to help the stricken areas – the White House also released an update on FEMA assistance – but many are criticizing the federal government for its response time and social media has been flooded with residents in isolated communities that are begging for help, including water.

In addition to this, another storm system is forming in the Atlantic that could impact these communities if it follows a similar course as Helene.
