Embattled North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was treated for second-degree burns at a hospital Friday night after a mishap during a campaign event, but the Republican is not expected to miss any time from his campaign for governor.

The incident occurred while Robinson, who is trailing badly in the polls to Democrat Josh Stein, was attending a sporting truck event in Mount Airy, his campaign said.

“Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was treated at Northern Regional Hospital for second-degree burns. He is in good spirits, appreciates the outpouring of well wishes, and is excited to return to the campaign trail as scheduled first thing tomorrow morning,” campaign communications director Mike Lonergan said in a statement to news media.

Robinson’s injury is believed to have occurred from an accident, and no foul play is suspected, several media outlets reported.

Robinson has been dealing with the fallout from a CNN report that recently accused him of making crude comments on a porn website.

He has denied the allegations and has hired a libel attorney who has helped former President Donald Trump pursue litigation against allegedly false media stories.
