Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was shredded on social media after giving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy a tour of a munitions facility in Scranton, PA on Sunday and signing artillery shells with him.

Evidently, Shapiro thought he would be lauded on X and shared a clip that many users found “disturbing.” Unfortunately for him, the Pennsylvania governor is trending now for all the wrong reasons.

“The leaders will discuss the state of the war between Russia and Ukraine, including Ukraine’s strategic planning and U.S. support for Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression,” a White House statement noted concerning Zelenskyy’s visit with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Host of “The Pulse” on Newsmax, David J. Harris Jr., wrote on X, “Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Pennsylvania democrat Governor Josh Shapiro signed artillery shells to be used in war. This was at a munitions factory in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Democrats are now the party of war and they’re proud of it. Sad.”

“We must all do our part in the fight for freedom—from the workers in Scranton who make Pennsylvania the arsenal of democracy to the brave Ukrainian soldiers protecting their country. We stand with Ukraine in their just defense of their homeland in the face of Russian aggression,” Shapiro wrote on X.

Zelenskyy thanked employees of the munitions plant for supplying Ukraine with ammunition for its war against Russia.

“Scranton, Pennsylvania. I visited a plant that manufactures 155 mm artillery shells. Now, for our warriors who are defending not only our country, not only Ukraine, the plant will be ramping up production,” he wrote on X. “I began my visit to the United States by expressing my gratitude to all the employees at the plant and by reaching agreements to expand cooperation between Pennsylvania and our Zaporizhzhia [region].”

“I am grateful to the people of Scranton, Pennsylvania, and all the states where Americans are building this incredible arsenal of global freedom. Together, we are strengthening the defense of liberty and democracy,” Zelenskyy wrote in another post.

Shapiro, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA), Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-8th District), and other local officials were present for Zelenskyy’s tour of the Scranton Army Ammunition Plant (SCAAP), which builds 155-millimeter howitzer rounds for the U.S. Department of Defense.

“Pennsylvania is the birthplace of American freedom and our Commonwealth proudly stands with the people of Ukraine as they fight for their freedom against naked aggression,” Shapiro proclaimed in a statement.

Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene hammered Shapiro over the photo-op and war-mongering with Zelenskyy, “I am 100% against this and so are most Americans. The U.S. is funding the Ukraine Gov at $1 billion/month to keep it running and funding most of the war by providing weapons, ammo, and equipment. The U.S. should be negotiating peace not fueling war.”

But perhaps RFK Jr.’s former running mate, and newly turned Independent Nicole Shannon put it best as she slammed the modern-day Democrat Party for embracing the “war machine.”

“I declared my independence this year because I refuse to support a party that flies in a foreign leader to promote the production of artillery and the use of bombs,” Shanahan’s post went on to say. “Our country deserves better. We want de-escalation through diplomacy, not a march toward World War III.”

Conservative Paul A. Szypula posted on X, “Instead of dealing with this continuing anarchy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro is wasting his time greeting Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the airport.”

It’s a very valid point. Elon Musk aptly commented on the violent scene in Philly that took place over the weekend, “Pretty sure I saw this scene in The Joker.”

Walter Kirn, Editor-at-Large of @CountyHwy, asked on X, “How does this strike young progressives? I’m genuinely curious.” The question is apropos considering progressives used to be part of the anti-war party but have somehow morphed into hawks almost overnight due to Ukraine.

Wyatt Reed managing editor of left-leaning online news site The Grayzone News, stated on X, “When did all our politicians start treating weapons of war like sports memorabilia? Why do they find killing people so amusing?”

There were plenty more on X who tore into Shapiro over the political stunt:
