Former President Donald Trump called into Hannity Tuesday night for a special interview where he discussed the recent assassination attempt, the Secret Service, and the state of the southern border.

“In this particular case, you had a very sharp agent, as good as you could find, and did a fantastic job, but somebody could have missed the barrel of that rifle,” Trump said. “Somebody of lesser talents or somebody that was distracted could have missed or could have been shot, I mean, frankly, could have also been shot.”

Trump thanked the deputies involved in apprehending would-be assassin Ryan Routh this week.

“But in this case, it worked out very well,” he continued, adding, “Butler is a very different story. Somebody should have been on that building, and that’s a different story.”

Trump also spoke about the crisis at the southern border and his intentions to close it down on Day One of his presidency.

“We had ‘Remain in Mexico’ — so many great things,” Trump said. “Now, no country is being invaded like we’ve been invaded … and many states don’t want to talk about it yet because they are embarrassed by it.”

“It makes no sense why they aren’t closing the border — you can do it with a phone call — you have to close the border,” Trump said.
