Ukrainian drones struck a large military depot in a town deep inside Russia overnight, causing a huge blaze and prompting the evacuation of some local residents, a Ukrainian official and Russian news reports said Wednesday.

Ukraine claimed the strike destroyed military warehouses in Toropets, a town in Russia’s Tver region about 240 miles northwest of Moscow and 300 miles from the border with Ukraine.

The attack was carried out by Ukraine’s Security Service, along with Ukraine’s Intelligence and Special Operations Forces, a Kyiv security official told The Associated Press, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the operation. According to the official, the depot housed Iskander and Tochka-U missiles, as well as glide bombs and artillery shells. He said the facility caught fire in the strike and was burning across an area 4 miles wide.

The facility was still exploding hours after the initial strike and the video is something to behold:

Of course, when CBS News mentions a strike “deep inside Russia” with thinly veiled glee, one must wonder how such a thing was accomplished.

I have no inside line to Ukrainian intelligence, so I can’t tell you how they managed a precision missile strike 300 miles outside their borders without using NATO satellites or equipment. We do know that Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti blamed drones for the attack, which is certainly feasible (Ukraine has relied heavily on drones during the war and even managed to hit Moscow with one).

But we also know that a few days prior, Biden talked with British PM Keir Starmer about letting Ukraine use European-made, long-range missiles for precision strikes, which makes one wonder:

Russian President/Supreme Ruler Vladimir Putin made it quite clear what would happen if such precision long-range missiles were used:
