A different solution for a different time made former President Donald Trump a target for “flip-flop” accusations as he courted blue state voters with a new tax position.

Throughout his campaign, the Republican nominee has maintained that the state of New York remained in play. Having drawn a crowd of thousands earlier this year with a historic visit to the South Bronx, the GOP leader previewed his latest Empire State rally putting the SALT cap in the crosshairs.

Posting on Truth Social Tuesday, Trump brought up the federal deductions for state and local taxes as he wrote, “Nassau Coliseum, on Long Island, will be a really big deal tomorrow. It will be PACKED with Patriots! We have a real chance of winning, for the first time in many decades, New York. Hundreds of thousands of Migrants, Crime at record levels, Terrorists pouring in, Inflation eating your hearts out — WHAT THE HELL DO YOU HAVE TO LOSE? VOTE FOR TRUMP! I will turn it around, get SALT back, lower your Taxes, and so much more.”

“I’ll work with the Democrat Governor and Mayor, and make sure the funding is there to bring New York State back to levels it hasn’t seen for 50 years,” he went on. “People are fleeing, maybe we’ll get them to ‘flee back!’ See you at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday at 7 P.M. EST!”

Part of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act set to expire at the end of 2025, SALT had been capped at $10,000 as a means to offset the other tax cuts that had been enacted during Trump’s first year in office.

Now, as the economy continues to suffer under the Biden-Harris administration’s Bidenomics policies, the billionaire businessman has continued to promote broader tax cuts that include no tax on tips, social security, and overtime pay.

The perpetually Trump-deranged left recognizing the impact the proposal could have on the election, responded by attacking the “reversal” over the cuts that were slated to expire anyway.

Leading the charge was Senate Leader Chuck Schumer who posted to X, “Donald Trump took away your SALT dedications and hurt so many Long Island families. Now, he’s coming to Long Island to pretend he supports SALT. It won’t work.”

At the same time, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget looked at that policy change as part of the status quo and contended it would result in a $1.2 trillion deficit increase.

Meanwhile, lawmakers from New York signaled what the policy had been pushing for meant for the state and possibly the election.

Speaking with the Washington Examiner, Republican Rep. Anthony D’Esposito said, “President Trump has watched New York Republicans advocate to make life more affordable for our neighbors. SALT is a priority — one I will keep fighting for and look forward to restoring the deduction in the 119th Congress with President Trump in the White House.”

Likewise, Rep. Marc Molinaro expressed, “He knows how important it is to New Yorkers, and I look forward to delivering relief!”
