Police say there is “no validity” to reports about explosives found near the site of a scheduled rally with former President Donald Trump.

“Explosives” were reportedly found in a car near the Long Island, NY site where the Republican nominee will be speaking before thousands of his supporters on Wednesday. But while there was a “suspicious occurrence” ahead of the event, a spokesperson for the Nassau County Police Department said there was no truth to reports of an explosive being found.

“We did respond to a suspicious occurrence in the vicinity of the Nassau Coliseum, however, there was no validity of an explosive device being found,” a spokesperson told Newsweek.”We’re unsure where this information originated, but we can confirm that no explosives were discovered.”

The statement came after journalist James Lalino and others posted online about an explosive device at the rally site just days after Trump was targeted by another would-be assassin in Florida. Law enforcement worked quickly to tamp down the false reports.

“Reports of explosives being found at the site are unfounded,” the police department’s Public Information Office said in an alert on a “suspicious incident” on Wednesday.

“There is a person who is being questioned who may have been training a bomb detection dog near the site,” the statement said. “The individual with the bomb dog falsely reported explosives being found and that individual is currently being detained by police.”

Many Trump supporters were arriving hours before the 7 p.m. ET rally at the Nassau Coliseum, an indoor arena, and some reportedly had camped overnight.

“This will be the safest place in the country on Wednesday,” Nassau County Commissioner of Police Patrick Ryder said at a press conference on Monday.

“Nobody will be in the Coliseum. We do a complete sweep that night,” he added. “We do a complete sweep again in the morning.”

“Nassau Coliseum, on Long Island, will be a really big deal tomorrow. It will be PACKED with Patriots! We have a real chance of winning, for the first time in many decades, New York,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“I’ll work with the Democrat Governor and Mayor, and make sure the funding is there to bring New York State back to levels it hasn’t seen for 50 years. People are fleeing, maybe we’ll get them to ‘flee back!’ See you at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Wednesday at 7 P.M. EST!” he added.
