We just got the first haunting image of the Titan sub that wrecked last

We won’t easily forget the terrible few days last summer as we watched the search for the Titan sub end with a tragic discovery:

Ongoing investigations, meanwhile, will likely continue reminding us for the foreseeable future:

The first picture of the Titan submersible following its deadly June 2023 implosion was revealed on Monday by the US Coast Guard as authorities opened a public hearing into the deaths of five people onboard. …

The newly released image provided most of the public its first glimpse of the Titan’s broken tail cone on the floor of the Atlantic Ocean. Fragments of the vessel are also visible on the ocean floor – debris that recovery crews found in the wake of the implosion.

Here’s what investigators found at the wreck site, just several hundred yards from the Titanic:

The passengers would have been killed in milliseconds. As the high-pressured water rushed in to fill the space inside the sub, the temperature would have gone far higher than boiling for a brief moment with explosive forces that left little of their bodies.

Human remains were located in the debris field, however.

The ongoing investigation revealed further details about the incident, including testimonies from engineers and contractors who said they did not feel that the carbon fiber hull was safe and felt rushed during its production.

There was also the indication that the passengers may have been well aware of the impending catastrophe:

In a final message, Titan’s crew texted ‘dropped two wts’, CNN reported, meaning that the submersible had shed two measures of weight in hopes of returning to the ocean’s surface.

Moments later, the mother ship “pinged” the sub for the last time.
