TOP O’ THE MORNIN’

EPIC: Entrepreneur Humiliates FBI When They Come to Intimidate Him—’Can See the Shame on Their Faces’

From what I can tell, he just delivered a Master Class in what to do when the Thought Police come for you—videotape every moment.

Pure Gold: JD Vance Blasts Dem/Media Hypocrisy Over Rhetoric

Vance nails it. “The logic of censorship leads directly to one place” — and that’s a dark, awful place.

Why Would Anybody Vote for Her?

You have a Harris sign in your yard, but there’s no educated reason to vote for her.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Today on Capitol Hill…

It’s a bit busier on the Hill Tuesday, as there are several Senate hearings set, including:

  • Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs — Hearings to examine the national security risks of replacing nonpartisan civil servants with political appointees, focusing on ensuring a trustworthy government
  • Senate Judiciary — Hearings to examine stemming the tide of hate crimes in America
  • Senate Finance — Hearings to examine lowering health care costs for Americans, focusing on the Inflation Reduction Act
  • Senate Judiciary — An oversight hearing to examine AI, focusing on insiders’ perspectives
  • Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection Subcommittee — Hearings to examine risks and harm in the private student lending and servicing market

The spending battle continues to heat up in the House. No doubt we’ll be hearing more and more about that in the coming days. Also, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) is returning to work after he collapsed with a medical emergency last week.

White House What’s Up

President Joe Biden has a fairly quiet Tuesday on tap. He’ll receive his Daily Brief in the morning. In the afternoon, he’s set to meet with World Bank President Ajay Banga to discuss efforts to “reduce global poverty.” And, for some reason, he’s set to receive a briefing on wildfires at…11:15 p.m.

The Homestretch

Vice President Kamala Harris is heading back to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for an afternoon campaign event Tuesday. Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff is set to attend a virtual campaign event and then another event in D.C. Tuesday evening. Running mate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz is campaigning in Georgia. He’ll be visiting Macon and Atlanta. He’ll then head to  Asheville, North Carolina.

Former President Donald Trump is holding a town hall event Tuesday evening in Flint, Michigan. Running mate and Ohio Senator JD Vance will be at a rally in Kent County in the afternoon.

Full Court Press…

Did you know the Jussie Smollett case is still going on? Me neither. Well, the Illinois Supreme Court is set to hear his appeal Tuesday. Also, music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected in court Tuesday in New York following his arrest Monday night.

MORNING MUSING

I’m the youngest of four — and by seven-and-a-half years, so I definitely took my fair share of abuse as a kid. Although, because I was so much younger, it was typically of the milder kind. (And, to be fair, I also got spoiled by the olders — often in a bid to outdo one another, but I still reaped the benefit.) There was getting shoved in the least comfortable spot in the car — or to the foot of the shared bed on trips. There were the tickles (which I hated). And there was the tried and true “Quit hitting yourself!” as your own arm and hand were weaponized against you by the bigger, stronger sibling. That latter trick came to mind yesterday as I watched the legacy press bend over backward to imply — if not outright assert — that if Trump almost got shot again, he only has himself to blame. Only, this isn’t kids horsing around. This is deadly serious stuff. What a joke they’ve become.
