After the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump in two months, both Trump and President Joe Biden have both expressed their own reasons for the attacks.

National Security Expert, Clare Lopez, told One America News both the president and former presidents’ claims are contributing factors. Trump pointed to the years of negative rhetoric about him driving these attacks.

“Clearly the rhetoric from the Democrats and from the media over the last few years has contributed to pushing people a little over the edge, who are already somewhat unstable,” Lopez said.

On the other hand, Biden says the Secret Service needs more support. According to Lopez, there are tiers to the security that the Secret Service provides, with sitting presidents having more security than former presidents. She argues more security is needed for Trump.

“In this case, with not only international threats coming from the Iranian regime nonstop, but also the fact that there have been incidents prior to this one a couple days ago,” Lopez argued. “It would seem to indicate that maybe you don’t just go by the book on this one, but the level of the threat and address with regard to former President Donald Trump.”

When it comes to getting answers, Lopez expresses disappointment with the press conference on the second assassination attempt by acting Secret Service Director Ron Rowe, due to the lack of accountability.

“It was disappointing and discouraging to me because it was such a lack of accepting responsibility,” Lopez continued. “Everybody was saying what a wonderful job he did.”

Especially because Ryan Routh, the second would-be Trump assassin, was able to stake out the location 12 hours before the assassination attempt took place.

“That perimeter was never checked, it was never inspected,” Lopez said.

Lopez raises multiple issues within the Secret Service. However, the real question on her mind is how Routh knew the former president would be there, because it was an ‘off the record’ event.

“There are a lot of questions that need to be answered,” Lopez said.

Lopez points to another investigation being conducted out of the state of Florida, led by its Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.).

“I am looking forward to his investigation, which I do trust will be thorough and professional and transparent.”
