Footage obtained by FOX5 shows the horrific moment an elderly woman on an innocent walk with her dog was brutally attacked by a passerby.

The video shows the woman pausing while her dog takes an interest in a section of the wall. During that time, a man in all black walks past her, turning around to look at her. Later in the video, he can be seen circling back, approaching the woman from behind, and slugging her in the head.

Other people in the area rushed to her aid, and in an interview, the victim explained that she smacked her face off the stone wall in front of her before hitting the ground.

“You didn’t look like you were going to get up when I saw you on that video, but here you are,” the interviewer said.

“I feel so lucky because he could have had a knife right?” The woman said, sporting a healing black eye. It was reported that she doesn’t remember much of the attack, perhaps due to the concussion she suffered.

This horrific crime was thrown on top of the NYPD’s pile of “misdemeanor assaults” which are “up nine percent from this time last year, and up 15 percent in the last two years” according to the report.
