Gov. Ron DeSantis said what many rational Americans are surely thinking when he followed up on his announcement Sunday that Florida would be conducting its own investigation into the second attempt on President Donald Trump’s life.

With a focus on the truth being told in a “credible” manner, DeSantis responded to a federal investigation of the attempt to assassinate the Republican nominee on Sunday by noting that the “same agencies that are prosecuting Trump in that jurisdiction are now going to be investigating this.”

Trump was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, when the suspect, Ryan Wesley Routh, was spotted 300-500 yards away with an “AK-47-style rifle.” Secret Service opened fire on Routh, who fled the scene before being apprehended on I-95 a short time later.

“I did announce yesterday we’re gonna be doing a state-level investigation,” DeSantis said Monday at a press conference in Orlando. “I understand that the Feds are involved, but we do believe that there were multiple violations of state law.”

“We also believe that there is a need to make sure that the truth about all this comes out in a way that’s credible,” DeSantis continued. “I look at the federal government, with all due respect to them, those same agencies that are prosecuting Trump in that jurisdiction are now going to be investigating this? I just think that that may not be the best thing for this country.

“Nevertheless, they have their prerogative, but we have our prerogative and so we’ll be making an announcement further along those lines in the… in the ensuing days.”

Trump’s indictment for allegedly mishandling classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence is out of the Southern District of Florida.

There is no doubt that Americans have little trust in the federal government, with any number of three-letter agencies playing a role in the de facto attempted coup of a sitting president in Trump, and recent stories of the CIA being involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy only add to the distrust.

And with DeSantis essentially poking the bear, there was concern expressed about ensuring that his security detail is “locked down.”
