Sanija Ameti, a 32-year-old Green-Liberal party official in Switzerland, has apologized after she fired a competition pistol at a poster of a 14th-century Mary and Jesus, posting pictures of their faces covered with bullet holes on social media.

“I apologize to the people who were hurt by my post. I deleted it immediately when I realized its religious content. I didn’t think about it,” Ameti said in response to the obvious backlash to her turning Christian imagery into Swiss cheese. “I’m incredibly sorry.”

She didn’t think about this?

Ameti was born in Bosnia into a Bosniak Muslim family, and came to Switzerland as a refugee in 1995.

The Green-Liberal party has said that Ameti resigned from her leadership position, while Beat Rüfenacht, the party’s co-president, said that Ameti was “in a safe place, and she’s OK” after reportedly being the target of threats.

What was that Norm Macdonald joke again?

”In the view of the party leadership, Sanija Ameti’s continued membership of the Green Liberals would damage the reputation of the Green Liberals. In order to prevent further damage, the party is requesting that expulsion proceedings be initiated immediately,” the Green-Liberal party announced.

She has been fired from Farner Group — a consulting company — while Operation Libero — a pro-democracy advocacy group Ameti co-founded — condemned her actions as “wrong and inappropriate.”
