The Democratic-led Senate is preparing to vote on legislation that would protect access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and require health insurance companies to cover fertility treatments after the first attempt to pass the legislation failed in June.

The legislation needs 60 votes to move forward on the Senate floor.

The vote is expected to take place on Tuesday.

Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., who had two children through IVF, introduced the bill, called the Right to IVF Act.

Most Senate Republicans voted against the same bill in June, preventing it from advancing on the Senate floor.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine, were the sole GOP senators who voted along with Democrats.
