Ohio Republican Gov. Mike DeWine has ordered state troopers to public schools in the city of Springfield amid an influx of Haitian migrants that has drawn national attention and a rash of bomb threats.

The move appears cautionary, considering DeWine’s office calls the threats “unfounded.” DeWine says many of them are coming from overseas but also said the added security will “help ease some of the fears caused by these hoaxes.”

The upheaval in Springfield, which also includes the closing of two college campuses, appears to have been sparked, or at least fueled, by allegations that the immigrant are eating pets.

Roughly 15,000 Haitian migrants have arrived in Springfield in the last three years, according to a Reuters.
