There is much wrong with the NFL today as seen through the eyes of those who have watched the league evolve over the years, with many of the challenges centering on the “woke” leadership of current commissioner Roger Goodell, who has fully bought into the radical DEI mindset on the left.

Chief among the problems, whether you are a fan of the team or not, is the name change that took place with the NFL franchise in Washington, DC. Regardless of how hard the team and the league try to move on under the Washington Commanders banner, the echoes of the past continue to haunt them.

The latest example here is that the family of the Blackfeet chief who served as the face of the previously named Washington Redskins wants his image restored.

The team was founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves and the following year the name was changed to Redskins. In 1937, the team moved to Washington D.C. In 2020, amid the George Floyd fiasco, the team caved to pressure from left-wing social justice warriors and dropped the Redskins moniker. Par for the course, it took them 2 years to arrive at the current name, the Commanders. For that two-year span, the team comically called itself the Washington Football Team.

To this day, game announcers and sports pundits still slip up and call the team the Redskins, and the descendants of John Two Guns White Calf, who was prominently featured on the team’s logo from 1972 until 2020, want to restore that proud heritage.

“The fans want him back and we want him back,” Thomas White Calf, a great nephew, told Fox News. “Our ancestor was the most famous and most photographed native in history.”

White Calf was joined on the call by his mother, Delphine White Calf, a niece of the late Blackfeet chief, according to the network.

“Two Guns was also the face on the Indian head nickel. I’m proud of him. The Blackfeet are proud of him,” he added.

Fox News noted that at the time the celebrated Blackfeet chief and his life story were canceled, polls showed that 90% of Native Americans supported the team name and White Calf portrait.

The Commanders were purchased in 2023 by a group of investors led by Josh Harris after previous owner Dan Snyder was essentially forced out over his controversial management practices and an alleged scandal. The new owners group included NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson and billionaire Mitchell Rales.

The dropping of the Redskins name is a prized feather in the headdress of the woke left and they’re not about to relent. Current ownership has shown little courage as of yet to even consider righting a wrong here.
