Despite denials from Vice President Kamala Harris during her debate with former President Donald Trump, reports have repeatedly found foreign nationals who’d illegally entered the country at the heart of heinous crimes against citizens and noncitizens alike. Now, a couple and their two young children were believed to have been murdered by a man from the Dominican Republic who’d obtained a fake New York ID to reach the mainland United States.

According to the Irondequoit Police Department, on Aug. 31, Fraime Ubaldo, 30; Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 26; Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4; and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2, were “horrifically murdered in their home” when first responders had arrived at the scene to deal with a fire at the property.

An update from authorities detailed that by Sept. 7, the Criminal Investigations Unit had arrested 34-year-old Dominican Republic national Julio Cesar Pimentel Soriano whom WROC had reported had been arraigned on four counts of second-degree murder.

The police noted that the suspect was “allegedly also wanted in [the Dominican Republic] for another murder from 2019,” and that, “It appears Mr. Soriano entered the island of Puerto Rico illegally and obtained fraudulent New York identification.”

“With that identification, he was free to travel from Puerto Rico to the United States mainland,” the media release continued while asserting that limited information would be provided due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

“This was a horrific scene,” said Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters. “In almost 32 years of doing this job, I haven’t seen anything like it.”

Though officials were limited on details, Monroe County First Assistant District Attorney Perry Duckles told WROC, “I think it’s one of those cases where a motivation exists just based on the facts and the circumstances.”

“What that motive is is another one of those things that we continue to investigate. I don’t want anyone to let their imaginations run wild just because of the circumstances and what happened to this family,” he went on, “but certainly it’s something we’re checking into.”

According to the outlet, on the day prior to Soriano’s arrest, the Dominican National Police had posted a wanted advisory for the man listing charges that included alleged homicide and participation in an “association formed … for the purpose of preparing or committing crimes against people or against property.”

He was listed as one of two men being sought for the Oct. 2019 murder of 29-year-old Yensy Emilio Ceballos.

“Our condolences go out to the family, their friends and neighbors,” Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andreae Evans told Spectrum News as locals memorialized the family on the porch of their home. “I’m so sorry this has happened, but I want you to know that the Town Board and I will authorize anything that’s needed to our police department to collaborate and to use any and all resources to bring these people to justice.”
