Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) believes the American people will be “shocked” and “appalled” when lawmakers release an interim report on the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump — which goes to show how out of touch the DC political class is with the electorate.

Coming from Blumenthal, a notorious Trump-hater, who commented after acting U.S. Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe provided senators with a closed-door update Thursday on the investigation into the failed assassination, the findings must be bad. But not any worse than what many Americans already suspect.

“I think the American people are going to be shocked, astonished and appalled by what we will report to them about the failures by the Secret Service in this assassination attempt on the former president,” Blumenthal told reporters. “But I think they also ought to be appalled and astonished by the failure of the Department of Homeland Security to be more forthcoming, to be as candid and frank, as it should be to them in terms of providing information.”

The security failures of those tasked with protecting the 2024 Republican nominee reach a level of incompetence that is inconceivable to the mind — simply put, it’s inexplicable that a gunman could set up on a rooftop with a clear line of sight to where Trump was speaking some 130 yards away and be able to get off a reported 8 shots before being neutralized by a counter-sniper team. Adding to the stunning events was that rallygoers saw the would-be assassin long before he fired and warned law enforcement, who reportedly had no line of communication with Secret Service agents on hand.

While Blumenthal offered no details of what was learned, Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) said the report “will be coming out shortly.” Skeptics question if that means prior to the November election.

“It will be coming out shortly. And it’ll only be an interim report because there’s a lot more information that we need to find,” Peters told Fox News. “And we hope once this report comes out we can get the additional information necessary to have a complete report of what happened, as well as steps of what we need to do in the future to make sure that this never happens.”

Based on the online response to the story, people already have an idea of what happened and it represents a troubling indictment of our government today, of which trust is almost non-existent — keep in mind that the attempt on Trump’s life comes amid recent claims that the CIA almost certainly played a role in the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Here’s a quick sampling of those responses, as seen on the social media platform X:
