I mean, who among us hasn’t considered grand theft auto after spotting a bag of chips in a person’s passenger seat?

And Fritos at that!

46-year-old Wisconsin man Shawn M. Johnson had already stolen items from several cars, including a wallet, when he saw a bag of Frito Lays sitting on the front seat of a pickup truck that looked like the perfect car-burglary snack.

The truck was unlocked, and when the thief opened the door to grab the chips, he saw the keys still in the truck.

The temptation was apparently too much for the criminal, and since he was already on a crime spree anyway, he decided to [checks notes] steal the truck.

He then took the truck to a McDonald’s, Walgreens, Shell, and Family Dollar in Fox Lake, Illinois, where he used a credit card out of the stolen wallet.

But of course, the owner of the stolen wallet had reported it missing, and police were able to track down the stolen truck as a result.

Johnson later told police that he was on drugs at the time.
Why else would he have chosen to shop at Family Dollar and McDonald’s when someone else was footing the bill?

Johnson was also spotted on McDonald’s security video and later confirmed his identity in the footage to police.

At the time of the car theft, he was on pre-trial release for two other similar cases.

The judge has since revoked his release, and he will remain in the Lake County Jail until after his trial.

(Hopefully prison has Fritos!)
