Longtime Manhattan Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) faced criticism after appearing to briefly fall asleep during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on the border crisis earlier this week. Members of Congress were in the midst of hearing testimonies from family members of victims affected by violent illegal immigrants, including Alexis Nungaray, the mother of murdered 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray from Texas. Nadler, the committee’s senior Democrat, drew the ire of two Republican members, who accused him of not taking the hearing seriously.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), in a post on X (formerly Twitter), shared a photo of Nadler appearing to doze off, remarking: “From frustrated families in the audience⁦ @JudiciaryGOP hearing listening to witnesses who lost loved ones to violent illegal aliens. Hardly any Dems present – those who are….”

Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) also posted a photo of Nadler, noting that the committee was hearing from parents of victims who were brutally beaten, raped, or killed and accusing Democrats of inattention.

“I would like to take a moment and express my sincerest condolences to all of our witnesses who have lost loved ones, and to all of their families… May their memories be a blessing,” Nadler said in his opening remarks, before criticizing the hearing as a partisan charade. […]
