Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested during an interview this week that 30 percent of Republican voters could be racist, sexist, and homophobic, though her Democratic Party is full of members who obsess about sex, skin color, and LGBTQ lifestyles.

Her head-turning remark drew parallels to former Secretary of State and first lady Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorable” remark regarding supporters of then-GOP nominee Donald Trump.

“There are people who will never be, shall we say, inclined to support Democrats because of — they just have a different orientation toward women, people of color, LGBTQ, you know, they just are not ever going to be there,” Pelosi said during a festival sponsored by the left-wing publication Texas Tribune. Her remarks were in regard to the closeness of the 2024 presidential race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, the New York Post reported.

“So, say that’s about like 30% or something like that … of the Republicans,” Pelosi added.

She then claimed that more wealthy Americans are supporting Republicans so they can keep their taxes low and keep their businesses free from costly and unnecessary environmental rules — a comment that flies in the face of the support her party is getting from millionaires and billionaires, especially from her state of California.

“Then you have very, very rich people who do not really want to pay taxes or have any regulation of clean air, clean water, any of that. So you have to deal with that. Now, it’s not as many very, very rich people, but it’s a lot of money that goes into a campaign,” Pelosi said.

The Post noted that Harris has been dramatically outraising Trump, “with her hauling in some $361 million during the month of August, trouncing her rival’s $130 million.”

That said, Pelosi cautioned that her party should sill be “respectful” of their political opponents.

“We have to be as respectful and understanding as possible,” Pelosi said. “There are people who are concerned. They have fear of globalization. They saw the factory down the road move overseas. They’re fearful of innovation.”

In the 2016 election cycle, Clinton caused a stir by trashing a segment of Republican voters.

“You can put half of Trump’s supporters into what I call a basket of deplorables,” she said at the time. “They’re racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic, you name it. And unfortunately, there are people like that, and he has lifted them up.”

When he was running for his first term, then-Democratic presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) also insulted a wide swath of voters in the Midwest when he said, “They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

And GOP presidential contender Sen. Mitt Romney (Utah) created a similar backlash during a fundraiser in May 2012, which was secretly recorded and leaked closer to the election.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president [Obama] no matter what … who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims,” Romney said at the fundraiser. “These are people who pay no income tax. … and so my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”

In Wisconsin, one of the most important swing states in the coming election, a new study from Emerson College and The Hill has shocking results that could be bad for Democrats.

This study shows that Trump has just a little more than half of the vote, with 50 percent compared to Harris’s 49 percent. Some people might not think that a 1% difference is a big deal, but Democrats are very worried about the trend, reports noted.
