Delaware state Sen. Sarah McBride, D-Del., on Tuesday won the Democratic nomination for the state’s sole House seat, putting her in position to become the first openly transgender lawmaker in the chamber.

State Treasurer Colleen Davis and former Delaware State Housing Authority Director Eugene Young had dropped out of the race and endorsed McBride.

Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., who occupies the seat currently, is running for the U.S. Senate.

McBride is favored to win the general election for the seat in the solidly blue state.
