84-year-old Dolores Boppel was taking her Shih Tzu for a walk last Thursday near her home in North Fort Myers, Florida, when a 7-foot-long alligator attacked her. Luckily, she was able to fight it off and save her pup in the process.

The woman later said of the gator,

It was like a torpedo. I didn’t see anything go that fast in my life.

A neighbor who witnessed the attack said,

She [Boppel] was walking the dog out here and she said it come running full speed at her. She chucked the dog, and saved her dog.

After she threw the small dog out of harm’s way, the alligator grabbed onto the elderly woman’s leg and began dragging her towards the water. She fought back, kicking at the alligator with her other leg, and eventually was able to punch the huge reptile in the face, causing it to retreat.

With an alligator that big, there’s no doubt that this granny’s quick thinking saved both her and her tiny dog’s life!

The 84-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she was treated for injuries to her leg and fingers, but is thankfully recovering well and remains in good spirits after the traumatic attack.
