Matt Vereen, a 28-year-old weekend anchor and sports reporter for WACH Fox 57 in South Carolina, was arrested on charges of child pornography and child abuse.

Police arrested Vereen and charged him with three counts of sexual abuse of a child. An arrest warrant says that the man was caught after police found a picture of a child in a “sexually explicit state of nudity” on his laptop.

A young girl’s genitalia were said to be obvious in the picture, where her “legs were spread.” The arrest warrant said that her genitalia could be seen “through sheer see-through pants.”It also said that her “right nipple can be seen through a white see-through top.”

Vereen was found in records from Apple, Gmail, and an ISP, as well as one record that was colored in.

Another search warrant states that Vereen asked to buy a 1-minute and 32-second video of a girl who wasn’t old enough to be on the video. The third warrant said that he asked for a different tape that was one minute and twenty-six seconds long.

Vereen’s LinkedIn page says that he has worked for WACH FOX 57 for almost three years. Prior to that, he has worked as a news reporter for KOLR in Springfield, Missouri.

Alvin S. Glenn Bond Court informed Wis10 in the area that Vereen had received a $40,000 cash security bond. As part of his bond, he can’t use social media or access his own internet at home, and he can’t talk to a child without an adult present.

Vereen could spend up to 30 years in jail if he is found guilty.

“WACH FOX News understands the severity of these allegations and Vereen has been placed on suspension pending an investigation,” Vereen’s employer said in a statement. “As this is a personnel matter, the station will not be commenting further at this time.”

“He was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and one count of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, all felonies, the South Carolina State Attorney General’s Office said. He could face up to three decades in prison if convicted,” the New York Post reported.

“Vereen was apparently on the job the day before his arrest covering the start of the University of South Carolina’s football season. The alleged pervert graduated from the University of Missouri and is a Carolina native, according to his Facebook page,” the outlet added.

“He put up a $40,000 surety bond and was released from jail the day after his arrest, the Post and Courier reported,” the Post reported continued.
