Is Biden Still Planning His Revenge on the DNC?

So is the Democratic “civil war” that appeared to break out after Joe Biden’s disastrous debate with Donald Trump finally over? Has peace been restored inside the House of the Left? Or are there some bitter feelings remaining and some unanticipated plot twists yet to come? Our PJ Media colleague Matt Margolis argues this week that the latter is more likely. But why? They’ve settled on a new candidate (such as she is) and the fundraising and honeymoon touring are well underway. Matt argues that it may boil down to how the events on Monday night at the DNC played out. Even after all of the humiliation that Nancy Pelosi and others behind the scenes put Joe Biden through to push him out the door, Scranton Joe’s speech on Monday was pushed back well beyond the primetime slot he was originally scheduled for. It’s still possible that this may have been a bridge too far for Joe’s ego and he could have a poison pill up his sleeve.

It was an amazing thing to see last night. After pushing Biden out of the race, the night that was supposed to be his swan song became the Democrats’ final insult as Biden’s speech was pushed well past primetime. Much of the country was out of luck if they wanted to watch the speech and still be able to wake up to go to work in the morning.

It’s as if the Democratic Party deliberately pushed the speech to a time when many Americans would largely not bother watching it. Yes, Biden was introduced by a series of speakers who gave lip service to how great, wonderful, and consequential he was, but it’s impossible to believe that Biden and his team weren’t insulted.

Alex Thompson of Axios reported that a longtime Biden aide texted him, “This is awful. He literally set up a campaign and handed it over to them—do they have to cut him out of prime time?”

But what evidence exists to suggest that Biden may not be satisfied with licking his wounds and limping home to Delaware? Matt notes two items that could potentially be of interest. First, it’s possible that Biden endorsing Kamala Harris wasn’t simply an act of recognizing the veep as the next logical successor. Several inside sources have reported that the Harris endorsement was Biden’s way of delivering a shot across the bow at Barack Obama, who didn’t initially endorse Harris because he believed she would be unable to defeat Trump. 

Then there is another unsourced inside story from Peter Hamby at Puck News. He describes a strange scene where Biden communications adviser Anita Dunn gave a rather “salty” departure speech at her farewell event. She reportedly made an odd reference to the movie The Godfather and made vague allusions to “getting revenge.” Was there some deeper meaning behind that or had she simply had one too many cocktails at her going away party? Only time will tell, but it’s not much of a stretch of the imagination to believe that Joe Biden is still going through a period of sour grapes after his ignominious ouster.

Even if that’s the case, however, what’s left that Joe Biden could do at this point, assuming he wants to assuage his hurt feelings? The deed is already done. He’s formally withdrawn from the race and the party has moved on to a replacement candidate. The most extreme possibility is one that we’ve discussed here before. Old Joe could still show up before the press at any time and announce that he’s had enough of this nonsense and he’s resigning the presidency immediately. That would stick the party with Harris as the President and the sole owner of the various disasters that the Biden administration has authored. Personally, I still find that option unlikely.

What’s left aside from that? Perhaps something more subtle. Joe doesn’t do many interviews these days, but he could start agreeing to a couple of them. He could begin slipping in some anecdotes about how he was shocked to see the embrace of Harris by the party because he worked with her closely and found her to be “even more confused” than people accuse Joe of being. He could reference her cackling and love of Venn diagrams and suggest that people need to explain policy issues to her. (That wouldn’t be much of a stretch of the imagination to believe.) Something like that could let the air out of Kamala’s balloon rather quickly.

And what better revenge could Joe Biden ask for than to have his forced replacement lose to Donald Trump? He would still be able to claim that, “At least I might have won.” And he doesn’t need to worry about the supposed negative impact the loss would have on the country. He’ll still be lying back on his beach chair outside his mansion in Delaware without a care in the world. I’m not placing high odds on this scenario either, but I can’t rule it out entirely.
