Former CNN host Don Lemon traveled to a blue state as part of his podcast to interview people about who they are supporting for president this year and got a lot of responses he likely did not expect.

Lemon found a lot of people who said they were supporting former President Donald Trump when he approached and interviewed them in Atlantic City, N.J., which is also a popular vacation spot for Americans living in Pennsylvania and New York.

“Trump for the win,” said the first man featured in Lemon’s podcast, going on to say he did not think Vice President Kamala Harris was “ready” for the job. After Lemon recited her resume as a prosecutor, U.S. senator, and vice president, he went on to reject the notion that he opposes her because she’s a woman.

The next man said his “money is on Harris,” but he was hoping for a Trump win. “Why don’t you like Harris?” Lemon followed up, at which point the man stated that she “doesn’t have any experience.”

The next person, a woman, said she was backing Trump and cited his support for the U.S. military and his adroit handling of foreign affairs.

“If you’re in a gambling town, who’s your money on?” Lemon asked a man and a woman. The man immediately said Trump, and for personal economic reasons. “Four years ago, it was a lot better. I made a lot more money than I do right now,” he said.

I know you feel that way, but that’s not actually what the record shows. The economy is actually better under Biden,” Lemon said, drawing an immediate laugh from the man.

The next interviewee also expressed support for Trump.

All the people that came to this country legally, it’s not fair that they’re letting all 10,000 to 15,000 people or 20,000 people here illegally. Have you seen San Diego?” he said. “They’re coming off the boats, off the water right here, off the ocean. Did you know Biden was flying them in? Did you know Biden was flying them in? Did you, you didn’t know that?”

Lemon was ousted from CNN in early 2023 after losing his poorly-rated evening gig and blowing it after moving to the network’s morning show following an insult of then-GOP presidential contender Nikki Haley’s age. He spoke about his firing in April of that year.

“Life goes on. That’s behind me, and we’ll see what happens in the future,” the former host said. “I’m gonna spend my summer on the beach and on the boat and with my family. Just chill out, and then I’ll see what happens next, but I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I can do that … I have time. I don’t have to rush to another job, even if I want another job.”

He said he would not change anything he did that might have led to his being dismissed.

“I live my life with no regrets, and whatever I did, I did, I owned,” he said. “I don’t look back and don’t want to change things in the past.”

“So there are lots of things that come your way that are unexpected, but I’m a survivor,” he said. “I come from strong, sturdy stock in Louisiana, and a lot of people are rooting for me and who love me.”

He wasn’t quite as understanding, however, immediately after his termination.

“I was informed this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned,” the former host said on what was then known as Twitter. “After 17 years at CNN I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly.”

“At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network,” he said. “It is clear that there are some larger issues at play,” he added.
