Eternally banned NBA player Jontay Porter, 24, will be facing felony charges related to his illegal betting activity during his time with the Toronto Raptors.

Porter landed in a blazing mess earlier this year after an investigation unveiled the ex-player’s scheme to purchase player props with the intention of underperforming to score on his ‘under’ bets. The Raptors’ two-way player undermined his team, once betting against Toronto during his tenure from 2023 to 2024.

On Tuesday, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn filed a criminal information sheet related to Porter’s case, indicating he will be facing a federal charge for his offense. Four additional men who reportedly benefited from Porter’s scheme will also face felony charges, according to ESPN.

The prosecutor’s document did not reveal the specific charges that are incoming for Porter.

In April, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver punished Porter for damaging the Raptors and the league’s integrity.

Porter’s schemes included exiting games early under the guise of a ‘medical reason’ to hit on his player prop bets. He purchased bets on 13 NBA games. Porter became the first-ever player in the NBA to receive a lifetime ban for betting. And the move was a no-brainer.

Jontay Porter’s is the younger brother of Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter, Jr.

The league has been rebounding since the betting scandal involving former NBA official Tim Donaghy.

As the NBA looks to quell any concerns over illegal betting activity, other leagues, such as the NFL and MLB, have also been trying to recover from their respective ‘gambling’ controversies.
