The upcoming Formula 1 movie starring Brad Pitt and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and seven-time champ Lewis Hamilton has been in the works for quite some time. A year ago, Pitt and the rest of the film’s cast and crew were at Silverstone to shoot some footage at the British Grand Prix, with the star himself doing some laps in a modified F2 car for the film.

However, this entire time, the project — believed to be one of the most expensive films ever made — hasn’t had an official title. That is until it was revealed during this year’s British Grand Prix weekend.

The title of this new F1 movie? F1.

…Really? I hope they didn’t spend too much money coming up with the title.

That’s like making a movie about pro football and calling it NFL.

It was thought at one point that the movie would be called Apex, which is the name of the fictional team that Pitt’s character drives for. Perhaps that was a working title at some point, but it looks like that’s not the direction they decided to go with the title.

Of course, F1 signed off on this because the film’s poster uses the series’ real logo, but I can’t help but think that this title will lead to some inadvertent “Who’s On First” situations:

“Say, what’s the name of that new Brad Pitt movie about Formula 1?”

“F1.”

“Yeah. Formula 1, F1; same difference. What’s the name of the movie about it?”

“It’s F1.”

I know that’s what it’s about but what’s it called?!”

However, there’s another part of me that thinks this may have been a big-brained move to help this flick when it comes to search engines.

I know I’ve googled “Brad Pitt F1 movie” more than a few times, and I’m sure a lot of other people have too. That was the best you could do because the movie didn’t have a title.

Well, now it does, and if you look at the poster again it literally says “Brad Pitt F1” so maybe that had something to do with why they went with such a simple title.

Anyway, they could have called the Joseph Kosinski-directed film Flaming Sack Of Horse Manure, and I’d still buy a ticket to see it in IMAX when it hits theaters in the Summer of 2025.

Additionally, a teaser for the film will air ahead of the British Grand Prix on Sunday.
