CNN commentator and former Obama administration official Van Jones said that the Democrats are not discussing whether to replace President Biden but rather “how” to do so.

Van Jones said this to CNN’s Jim Sciutto:

I understand people want to, you know, defend him and protect him and give him the space and the dignity to make his own choice. But there is a big conversation happening right now about how this happens – not whether.

Jones spoke about what has been happening behind the scenes since the first presidential debate of the 2024 election cycle.

Behind the scenes, it’s full-scale panic. People are passing around legal memos, PDFs are flying back and forth on WhatsApp, trying to figure out, what are the options? How can you replace Biden? How do you get him to do it in a way where he feels respected, as he should be respected?

Since Biden’s abysmal debate performance, speculation has swirled about whether he will be the nominee or somebody else will take the reins. As of now, some Democrats have coalesced behind Biden, but for how long will that last?

Two House Democrats, Reps. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) and Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) recently called for Biden to step aside. During the 2020 campaign, Biden pledged to be a bridge to the next generation.

Grijalva told the New York Times:

If he’s the candidate, I’m going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere. What he needs to do is shoulder the responsibility for keeping that seat — and part of that responsibility is to get out of this race.

Doggett, in part, had this to say about the matter:

I represent the heart of a congressional district once represented by Lyndon Johnson. Under very different circumstances, he made the painful decision to withdraw … President Biden should do the same.

Vice President Kamala Harris seems to be gaining traction as the Democrats look to revive her image, after it was damaged during her failed presidential run and as VP for the past three-and-a-half years.

Jones mentioned Harris, saying Democrats seem to be under the assumption that she would be next in line. The CNN commentator added that the question the party is trying to answer is, “Who should Kamala Harris’ vice president be?”

Jones went on to praise Biden:

We have someone who loves this country. We have someone who has given his all – I mean, his all, to the last drop – for this country, but he may not be able to get across the finish line. And a mature party has to take that into account. And that is what’s happening.

If Biden is ultimately pushed aside for another candidate, it will likely be Harris, and a delegate has already stated that if a white man is chosen over Harris, black women will blow up the Democrat Party.

Get your popcorn ready because, leading up to the convention, dozens of individuals in the media will be trying to get the scoop on who will replace Biden, as Van Jones predicts will happen. It is only a matter of time before all of this unravels, and the possibility of the replacement being announced before the DNC convention is becoming increasingly likely.
