Everyone has a bad day at the office, but what Toronto Blue Jays reliever Jose Cuas experienced against the Houston Astros on Wednesday may just be the most embarrassing day of work ever recorded.

Cuas came in for relief with his team trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning, but in the blink of an eye, Houston picked up three runs to jump out to a four-run lead.

When we say blink of an eye, we mean it. Cuas faced four batters and threw just three total pitches before the Astros added to their advantage.

Cuas intentionally walked the first batter he faced, Yordan Alvarez, who already had a two-run double and two-run homer to his name. With his first pitch thrown, Yainer Diaz connected for a single to drive in two runs.

Then, with what were his final two pitches of his outing, Cuas hit Jakey Meyers and Jeremy Pena.

It was like something you see in a video game when the person with the controller has no idea what they’re doing.

Cuas did enter the history books with his ‘performance’ in what was ultimately a 9-2 win for the Astros as he became the first pitcher in modern MLB history (since 1901) to hit two batters on three pitches thrown, according to SportsNet.

Cuas was actually drafted in 2015 as an infielder before making the move to the mound in 2018. He eventually made his MLB debut on the bump with the Kansas City Royals in 2022.

It’s been a campaign to forget for the right-handed pitcher in 2024. After being claimed off of waivers by Toronto, he’s posted an ERA of 8.22 in just 2.0 innings pitched.
