President Joe Biden’s “work wife” has become his real ball and chain.

Far from being the helpful partner she is portrayed as, Vice President Kamala Harris is viewed by voters as either unhelpful or a drag on the embattled president, who is working to rebuff calls to step aside because polls show him losing to former President Donald Trump.

But the most likely alternative, Harris, looks even less likely to beat Trump, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports survey shared with Secrets.

Consider:

— She is viewed as “very unfavorable” by 43% of likely voters, while just 21% viewed her as “very favorable.”

— Most, 43%, said she doesn’t make a difference in their 2024 vote, while 29% said she hurts Biden’s chances of winning versus 25% who said she helps.

— And 49% said she is doing a “worse job than most recent vice presidents,” compared to just 19% who said “better.”

— Rasmussen titled its analysis “Kamala Harris: Voters Still Don’t Like VP Very Much.”

Harris has faced criticism ever since she dove into the 2020 presidential race. She lost traction from the start, was sharply critical of Biden, and bowed out before 2020 began and before the first vote was cast in the primaries and caucuses.

As vice president, she has been slammed for failing each of her assignments, especially as Biden’s “border czar.” She has lately been given the jobs of communicating abortion-rights policy to Democratic women and outreach to black voters.

Many Democratic insiders who have been urging Biden to stand aside agree that the only alternative is his vice president, and her unpopularity is deeper than Biden’s.

A new McLaughlin and Associates survey provided to Secrets shows she would lose to Trump by a wider margin than Biden. Trump tops Biden 46%-44%, while Trump would beat Harris 47%-42%.
