Nelly Korda was forced to withdraw ahead of this week’s Aramco Team Series event in London after announcing that she had been bitten by a dog in Seattle the day after missing the cut in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship last month. While it may seem like a unique accident, it turns out another high-profile player, Alison Lee, suffered a very similar injury earlier this year.

Korda, the No. 1 player in the world, didn’t offer up many details about the dog bite other than it happened while in Seattle, but Lee has revealed that Korda was bitten by a “dog she didn’t know” while outside of a “random coffee shop.”

Lee, who is teeing it up in the Aramco Team Series in London, has experience dealing with serious dog bites after being bitten by her boyfriend’s rescue dog named ‘Bear’ in January of this year. She endured open wounds on her left hand as a result of the bite and actually had to spend a few days in the hospital after the wounds became infected.

“My dog bite got seriously infected, so I was actually hospitalized for three days,” Lee said ahead of this week’s tournament in London. “But yeah, it’s an unfortunate circumstance and definitely scary. She got bitten by a dog that she didn’t know, it was just at a random coffee shop. I am hoping for a speedy recovery for her.”

Lee also shared that Korda had been asking her about the symptoms she had after suffering her own bite.

Korda got off to an unfathomably hot start this season having already earned six wins on the LPGA tour, including one major championship. Five of those six wins came in consecutive events, tying Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez with the longest streak of consecutive wins in LPGA Tour history.

The Evian Championship, the fourth major of the year on the women’s side, begins next week in France. As of right now, Korda is in the field.
