I spoke with Battle of Mogadishu veteran Brad Thomas back in 2022 on American Joyride, and a clip from the interview recently resurfaced that I totally forgot about:
The story of the donkey in Black Hawk Down.
Yes, there’s a legendary story involving a donkey during the battle in Somalia in October 1993. Multiple American helicopters were shot down, Delta Force operators and Army Rangers – the unit Brad was with at the time – fought like hell against a city turned loose. It was horror beyond imagination, but against all odds, some guys were bewildered by what they saw unfold with a donkey.
