Facing a growing chorus within his own party to step aside due to his cognitive decline, President Biden will sit down for an interview with ever-reliable ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos that will air over the Fourth of July weekend.
With concerns about the 81-year-old president’s mental acuity swirling following last week’s dismal debate, the interview will NOT be live — a factor that critics argue will give ABC the opportunity to edit the footage and clean up any serious stumbles Biden may experience.
“ABC News announces the exclusive, first television interview with President Joe Biden following the presidential debate last week. The president will sit down on the campaign trail Friday with ‘Good Morning America’ co-anchor and ‘This Week’ anchor George Stephanopoulos,” the network announced. “A first look of the interview will air Friday, July 5, on ‘World News Tonight with David Muir,’ with portions airing on ‘Good Morning America’ Saturday and Sunday as well. The extended interview will air Sunday, July 7, on ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos’ and ‘Good Morning America’ on Monday, July 8.”
The interview — much like every other Biden interview — will not be live.

Media columnist Joe Concha described Stephanopoulos as a “Clinton attack dog,” responding to the announcement by saying Biden would “never agree to a live interview.”
Which is precisely what some critics suggest the president needs to do to put to rest all the talk about a replacement on the Democratic ticket in November.
The fact that the interview will air over the July 4th holiday weekend resulting in an expected lower audience is not lost on those skeptical of the exercise.
Biden held a quick news conference after the Supreme Court delivered a big win for former President Donald Trump, ruling 6-3 that presidents have “absolute immunity” for official acts. Reading a short statement off a teleprompter, Biden beat a hasty retreat without taking any questions from reporters.
Then again, Biden may have already lost the battle when reporters are openly asking at the daily press briefings if he has “Alzheimer’s, any form of dementia, or degenerative illness.”
“Does President Biden, at 81 years old, have Alzheimer’s, any form of dementia, or degenerative illness that may cause these sorts of lapses?”

As for the Clinton angle, it prompted an interesting opinion about the ABC News interview potentially being a setup to finish off Biden — a coup de grâce, if you will.
I was thinking exactly the same thing, Guy. It’s not so far-fetched that Hillary Clinton may think she’s got an opening here and called Clinton loyalist George S. to close the deal. This could easily be a trap set.

Here’s a quick sampling of other responses to the story, as seen on X:
Oh wow.
A Democrat operative is going to interview a Democrat and totally make it a tough interview.
Right?
RIGHT? https://t.co/JY9Lt5ZGFy

This is ridiculous. Does the Biden campaign really think a pre-recorded interview will sway voters? If there was nothing wrong with the president, he would do a press conference this evening. https://t.co/2RWXafhfdA

Biden to be interviewed by former Clinton attack dog George Stephanopolous on ABC.
This will be taped on Friday. Edited. And then presented on Sunday morning.
Biden will never agree to a live interview.

The media should demand that ABC show us the Biden interview unedited or simply air it live. Any more taped and edited interviews are more cover for Biden. No more media Biden collusion to beat Trump.

ABC doesn’t want you to see Joe Biden in real-time so you can witness his cognitive decline for yourself—they’d rather control the narrative and show you a heavily edited interview, instead https://t.co/cvc37zCUk3
