Quinn Ewers understands the stakes of Texas moving to the SEC.

The Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are officially members of the SEC after ditching the Big 12. Not only is Texas now in the SEC, but the Longhorns should be one of the best teams in America this season.

A return to the CFP seems very possible, if not downright likely. What does Ewers think about playing in the SEC?

He’s more than ready.

Quinn Ewers knows Texas will have a target on its back.

“It’s definitely a different level. I’ve always wanted to play in the SEC. I know we’re all excited to be a part of a conference like that. Like you said, we’re everybody’s biggest game, and we do understand that,” Ewers told the media at the Manning Passing Academy last week when talking about joining the SEC.

He also made it clear he’s very “excited” to see the Longhorns back on the field against Texas A&M. You can watch his full comments below starting at 7:55, and let me know your thoughts at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.

These comments have set social media on fire, and some seem to think Ewers is trash talking the rest of the SEC. I didn’t interpret it that way at all.

He definitely is putting the conference on notice that he’s well-aware the Longhorns will be everyone’s biggest game, and he’s probably not wrong with his assessment.

Texas should be a top-five team to start the season, the Longhorns are stacked and it’s a historic national brand joining one of the two major power conferences.

The storylines write themselves. Steve Sarkisian’s team also has a lineup of great games this season. The team’s schedule includes Michigan, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida and Texas A&M. That’s a lot of great games.

Can Ewers and Texas have another great season? Fans will find out soon enough. Let me know what you think at David.Hookstead@outkick.com.
