A victory for the former president indeed meant “retribution” for one senator who warned Democrats “be careful what you wish for.”

While former President Donald Trump and allies like former adviser Steve Bannon have tempered the rhetoric regarding the potential consequences for partisan weaponization of the government, South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) plowed ahead Sunday.

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union” with anchor Dana Bash, fresh off her task of co-moderating the presidential debate, the lawmaker was presented with Trump’s response on accepting the results of the 2024 election.

Smacking down her incredulity by pointing out the absurdity of accepting the outcome even if the candidate thought he “was cheated,” Graham dismissed the premise and pivoted to what really concerned him, i.e., the policies of President Joe Biden’s administration and players like impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

“But, most importantly, his policies are not working. And [South Carolina Democratic Rep.] Jim Clyburn said if you like what’s going on, you’re going to get more of it. Seventy percent of the people in this country think we’re going in the wrong direction,” asserted the senator. “The Democrats keep calling President Trump a felon. Well, be careful what you wish for.”

“I expect there will be investigations of Biden’s criminality at the border. If I’m Mayorkas, I should be worried that somebody is going to come after you because you’ve abused the parole statute. The Hunter Biden laptop — all 51 of the people who signed a letter saying the laptop was fake and Russian disinformation, I hope somebody looks at you because that’s election interference.”

“So we’re — this country is going to have a resetting here. And using the Biden standard of glorifying political prosecutions, Pandora’s box has been opened. Whether he steps down or not, accountability is coming to him.”

The opportunity for fearmongering was not overlooked by Bash who noted, “I want to get to a couple of important issues sir, but you just warned of retribution.”

“Yeah, I warned that the Pandora’s box opened by the Democrats is going to be applied here,” Graham made clear. “There should be an investigation of Mayorkas and Biden for abusing the parole statute that led to the murder of Laken Riley. They let the accused killer out because of lack of capacity. They paroled him illegally.”

“I think the criminality of the Biden border policy should be looked at. We should look at how people lied about the Hunter Biden laptop being fake when it was real. Yeah, I expect people to look at that,” he added.

The senator’s remarks came as Bannon had engaged in a fiery exchange with ABC News’ Jon Karl over the literal interpretation of a metaphor about putting “heads on pikes” with a specific reference to Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

“That is a metaphor in this town, Jonathan, and it’s beneath you to bring it up!” argued the host of “War Room” who went on to remind how during the debate Trump had reiterated that calls for “retribution” would be answered with a successful second term.
