Lots of people know who Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is largely because of her on-the-court antics and questionable (at best) character, which isn’t all that surprising.

But it’s also easy to lose sight of the fact that she’s also a pretty talented basketball player, and she proved that in historic fashion earlier Sunday.

In a matchup with the Minnesota Lynx (a 70-62 loss for Chicago), Reese recorded 10 points and 16 rebounds for a double-double. That marked the 10th game in a row she finished with a double-double stat line, which set a WNBA record. The streak broke Candace Parker’s previous record of nine such games in a row.

Earlier this week, Sky coach Teresa Weatherspoon said that Reese’s output isn’t all that surprising because she plays to her strengths.

“She knows what she does best,” Weatherspoon said after the team’s loss to the Las Vegas Aces earlier this week. “The one thing about her is that she is incredibly hard on herself. As far as rebounding the ball, we knew that would translate over [from college]. And she’s getting a better understanding of how to score around the rim. She’s learning and she’s learning fast.”

Reese almost didn’t quite get to 10 points. After scoring nine throughout the previous 47-plus minutes of action, she got fouled on Chicago’s final possession and was sent to shoot free throws. While she missed the first one, she nailed the second, much to the delight of her mom.

In all honesty, good for Reese. She’ll have a chance to extend her streak Tuesday, when Chicago takes on the Atlanta Dream.
